Installing a printer

The preferred way to install a printer is to use the samba server of C&CZ.

IMPORTANT: for printing on the C&CZ printers you're account need to be in a printerbudget group. You can check this in the http://dhz.science.ru.nl website under the subpage printing. If you are not member of a printerbudget group then the scientific programmer of your section can add you to one.

Technical details  :

• uses central printer server to send jobs to printer:
  • Windows: \\printto.science.ru.nl\printername or \\printer-srv.science.ru.nl\printername (both seem to work under Windows 7 as of 2014-08-19)
  • Linux, Mac: smb://printsmb/printername (Reason for alternative server: bug in smb software used by Linux,Mac)
    IMPORTANT: don't use smb://printsmb.science.ru.nl/printername because that can fail due to a bug in Samba. If you use the wireless network eduroam, add the line "131.174.30.59 printsmb" to your /etc/hosts file.
• authentication needed with science account
• works on all local networks (including wireless networks)

       IMPORTANT:  in the print job specify  paper type and size but don't specify which tray,
                   the printer will find out itself (if configured correctly)
            
       letterhead(dutch:briefpapier) 
             To print a letter on university paper then select A4, letterhead  (tray: auto)   
             In the case of this printer for letterhead only the 'bypass tray' is specified.
             If the  'bypass tray' is empty the printer will hold until you put paper 
             in the tray, and then the printer will continue.
             All other print jobs after your job will wait until your job is finished,
             so please don't wait to long to fill the 'bypass tray' with paper.

note:   
 - to print on these printers you must belong to a budget group
 - in http://dhz.science.ru.nl you can see to which budget groups you belong
 - if you need to install the printer driver manually you can find the driver at : 
 
   http://www.konicaminolta.eu/en/business-solutions/support/download-center.html
 
  then choose :
      product type:     multifunctional colour 
      choose product:   bizhub 654 (floor 1) or bizhub 364e  (floor 0,2,3)
  then select your operating system and download the plc driver. If you have the choice of
  an universal driver I would prefer that.

                   before room 02.08A 
                   windows xp users should use the : hp 4100 series ps driver 	
                   windows 7 users should use the :  'HP Laserjet P4014/P4015 PCL6'
