How to ask if some software is available?

University Licensed software

The University has several licenses for software.

Office 365

The online version of office 365 is at https://portal.office.com .

The desktop version of office365 you can also download from the https://portal.office.com by clicking on the "Install Office" button on the right top side.

Install from network share

Most of the software with a university license can be installed directly from the network.

Usage 'install' network share:

• When you work at home, first connect to the VPN network, otherwise access the share is denied.
• you need to attach the 'install' network share using your science account :
  • for Windows:     \\install-srv.science.ru.nl\install
  • for Linux/Mac:    smb://install-srv.science.ru.nl/install
• On this network drive browse to the science folder and then to the software package of your choice.
• Install the software, usually by executing 'setup.exe'.
• To get the license key you can mail postmaster@science.ru.nl.

On the C&CZ linux login servers the software can be found in /vol/install/science.

MSDNAA

The III/ICIS institutes have a license for the Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (msdnaa). This means that students and staff can use Microsoft development tools, operating systems and servers for education and research. See the MSDNAA Program Usage Guidelines for a summary of acceptable usage of the software and the Microsoft MSDNAA site for general information about the programme.

Obtaining the software

• Apply for a user id in an email to msdnaa@cs.ru.nl.

  III students and AI students

  you already should have received your user id by email

  Other students

  include your students number and the code of the course you're following

  ICIS staff

  no additional information required

 Only a user id is sent to Microsoft at this stage. The other information is used for our local administration and not given to Microsoft.

• Go to e-academy site. and register with your user id. At this point you have to provide your email address (see also the  e-academy privacy policy).
• After the registration process you can download and install the software. Note: the download mechanism seems incompatible with non-Microsoft browser (such as Mozilla, FireFox), so use Internet Explorer for this task.
