Virus Scanner software

Employees and students of Radboud University can download the F-secure internet security package free of charge via SURFspot (www.surfspot.nl). Within the surfspot website search for "F-secure Safe voor RU Nijmegen".

"F-secure Safe" is available for: Android, Apple Mac, iOS, Windows

F-secure does not protect against phishing, but it does protect against viruses sent in the attachments of phishing e-mails. Nevertheless, be cautious about opening attachments: security software will recognise viruses that are already known but does not always detect the latest viruses. It always takes a few days for a new virus to be included in the security software’s virus list, regardless of the package you use.

The wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_antivirus_software shows that "F-Secure Safe" has the following features:

  • On-demand scan - The term "on-demand scan" refers to the possibility of performing a manual scan (by the user) on the entire computer/device.
  • On-access scan - The term "on-access scan" refers to the ability of a product to automatically scan every file at its creation or subsequent modification.
  • CloudAV - The term "CloudAV" refers to the ability of a product to automatically perform scans on the cloud.
  • Intrusion detection system (IDS)
  • Email Security - The term "Email Security" refers to the protection of emails from viruses and malware.
  • AntiSpam - The term "AntiSpam" refers to the protection from spam, scam and phishing attacks.
  • Web protection - The term "Web protection" usually includes protection from: infected and malicious URLs, phishing websites, online identity (privacy) protection and online banking protection.
  • Live-Update
