ubuntu live cd - delivers either a memcheck or harddisk check in the bootmenu => just download the ubuntu desktop installation disk , and install it on an usb stick with the program etcher, then boot from usb.

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ - stripped windows xp bootable cd with a lot of diagnostic programs
